Chapter History

The Southern Oregon No.1 Chapter started in May 1991 and is sponsored by D&S Harley-Davidson located in Phoenix, Oregon.  The chapter has the impressive distinction of being the “first” HOG Chapter approved to sport the “No.1” behind the chapter name.  Our meetings are held on the second Saturday of each month at the chapter’s club room on the second floor at D&S Harley-Davidson.  Usually after each meeting, the Road Captain, along with the assistance of the Safety Officer, plan a ride somewhere in the valley and usually end up at a tasty restaurant for food and fun.

To encourage member participation, the director selects a different “mystery greeter” before the beginning of each meeting.  Members who don’t circulate and greet everyone present the risk being fined a quarter for not introducing themselves to the “Mystery Greeter.”  This is not only fun but also an excellent way to get to know other members.  All proceeds obtained through the mystery greeter fines are used later in the summer to assist in funding the Mystery Greeter Ride and Picnic.  This ride is usually a great 100 plus mile ride ending with great food and drink.

Southern Oregon No.1 Chapter has been involved with many past community projects.  Some of those projects have included the Adopt-A-Highway program,  planting some 600 trees with the Forest Service near Applegate, collecting aluminum pull tabs to help aid kidney dialysis patients, money raised to help families in distress, raising money for the Children’s Miracle Network, and food drives to help those less fortunate during the holiday season.

The chapter, along with D&S Harley-Davidson, has sponsored events including an annual overnighter for members only held on the meeting weekend in September at a local campground, usually at the coast.  This event helps members earn their Chapter Event pin for the year.  We also have had an annual Halloween and Christmas Party that are for members only.  We have monthly “HOG ‘N DINES” held at a restaurant somewhere in the valley.  This dinner gathering is open to members and guests and is a great way to get to know your fellow HOG members!

As if we aren’t busy enough with all of this, the chapter members participate in local parades in Jackson and Josephine counties.  We help to provide security during the Medford Cruise every summer.  And don’t forget the Rogue Valley Toy Run that is held each December.  The HOG group provides support for this important event.

The Southern Oregon No.1 Chapter is very community oriented.  All of the events that this chapter has been involved in could not have been completed without the help of all the members.  You can be assured that wearing the “Southern Oregon No.1 HOG Chapter” patch shows community and family involvement.  You will hear many times that our main goal is to “Ride and have fun!”
